Barriers to Entry

Michigan students across the state are unable to participate in extracurricular activities due to cost. With no help from their schools, students and their families are burned with higher participation, transportation, and registration costs which prohibit many students from participating. We know that extracurricular activities help further students’ personal, professional, and educational development and make a lifelong impact. After the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic it is important now more than ever to support access to extracurricular activities.

No student should have to sit on the sideline and miss out on valuable, hands-on educational experiences because of barriers beyond their control.

27% of households with income of less than $60,000 reported a decrease in participation in extracurricular activities due to cost.
