A student grant from the Michigan Youth Education Fund can help reduce the cost of participating in the extracurricular activities you are a part of!
Review your eligibility and our guidelines for the student grant program. (You can review our guidelines and eligibility below)
Complete and submit your application (aprox. 15-20 minutes). Make sure to be as thorough as possible and ask a trusted adult for help is needed.
Student grants are considered on a rolling basis. Once the Application Review Committee has made a decision, you will be notified by email.
After you participate in your extracurricular activity, follow the instructions to report your experience.
Students (18 years-old and younger) from an accredited Michigan High School (public, private, or charter school) that will be attending the educational experience in full as described in the application may apply.
The application deadline for student grants shall be no later than four weeks before the scheduled event. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis as per the qualifying criteria. No application will be considered sooner than four weeks before the event.
The grant program is managed and administered solely by the Michigan Youth Education Fund. The Application Review Committee (ARC) will evaluate all applications and award grants in an impartial fashion based on the following criteria:
If selected to receive a grant, the applicant must provide verification, by the school superintendent, principal or immediate supervisor of the proposed trip and other information as requested.
Grant determinations shall be distributed approximately 2 weeks after submission. Grant recipients will be notified by email. Upon confirmation from your student organization’s advisor or school administration, funds will be distributed directly to your high school. In the event a recipient does not participate, the grant will be forfeited and funds returned to the Michigan Youth Education Fund. Any tax liability is that of the respective school district.
By participating, entrants agree:
No substitutions or transfers permitted. Recipients may receive an Educational Opportunity Student Grant only once in a given school year. Grants are to be used to cover field trip costs and fees. In the event the costs and fees are less than the grant amount, the balance of the grant must be returned. Grants may not be used to supplement expenditures that are the normal responsibility of the school district (e.g. substitute teacher salaries). The Michigan Youth Education Fund reserves the right to interpret these rules and to make decisions concerning the grant, its acceptance and use, in situations not covered by these rules.
